2026 Florida Wind Mitigation Form Changes: What Florida Homeowners and Homebuyers Should Know

Starting April 1, 2026, Florida began using an updated Wind Mitigation Inspection Form called OIR-B1-1802 (Rev. 04/26). If you are a homeowner shopping for insurance savings, or a homebuyer trying to avoid surprises before closing, this change matters. Any wind mitigation inspection completed on or after that date must use the new form.

So, why did the form change? Florida law requires the Office of Insurance Regulation to review wind-mitigation features and related discounts on a regular cycle, and the latest update followed that review and the state’s 2024 residential wind-loss mitigation study. In simple terms, the state wanted the form to better reflect today’s construction standards and the features that help homes perform better in strong wind events.
For homeowners, the biggest takeaway is that the new 2026 wind mitigation form asks for more detailed information. The updated form adds Region and Roof Slope, and it also refines how inspectors document roof covering, roof deck attachment, roof-to-wall attachment, secondary water resistance, and opening protection. The form also recognizes certain FORTIFIED Home designations.
This does not automatically mean every homeowner will get a bigger or smaller discount. What it does mean is that insurance companies now have a more detailed form to review when determining possible wind-mitigation credits. Older reports may still remain usable in some situations if they were completed before April 1, 2026, no material changes were made to the home, and the report is still within the valid time window, but underwriting rules can vary by insurer.
For homebuyers, this is a smart time to order a wind mitigation inspection early in the transaction, especially if you want your insurance quotes to reflect the home’s current wind-resistant features. For current homeowners, it may be worth scheduling an updated inspection if you have replaced your roof, added opening protection, improved roof-to-wall connections, or made other storm-hardening upgrades.
